Kirk Franklin - The Fight Of My Life
 |
Released at the end of 2007 ‘The Fight Of My Life’ Kirk Franklins latest album might be considered by some a weird choice for a music review especially for a brand new website that aims to have it’s finger on the pulse of all things fresh and new in Gospel.
However we make no apologies for two very good reasons.
1) The album is excellent and worthy of a review on our humble little site 2) To be honest we need a tie-in as we are giving 5, yes that’s 5 copies away for FREE, no charge, nada, zing, zilch and so on! (We strongly urge you to read on to see if you can get yours).
Gospel pioneer Kirk is the Grammy getting, multi platinum selling artist who first incorporated urban sounds into gospel music. The end result has seen Gospel Music reaching a much wider audience and to be fair has proved controversial in some quarters. That said the team at UKGM love Kirk Franklin and all his music.

There are a couple of ‘biggies’ on this album including a remake of Kenny Loggins song ‘This Is It!” Kirks version "Declaration (This Is It!)" is an up tempo smash that looks at the realities and victories of life.
I hope you caught the live radio interview I did with Kirk just before Christmas 07. In it I commended him for his ability to be real and somewhat venerable about his own shortfalls and life history. Kirk continues with his openness in this project as suggested by the title itself. The album also incorporates a number of musical styles including a little jazz, urban, soul and some great vocals (including a jaw-dropper from 11 year old Donavan Owens on the track ‘A Whole Nation’ which quite simply challenges men to be Fathers).
