Hip-Hop is not a great stirrer for me, but the first two tracks into the album are great for Holy-Hip-Hopers nonetheless. Tracks are crisp and have all the pre-requisite; effects, heavy bass lines, synthesised hook and vocals and zealous raps.
A pronounced ‘kick drum’ catches my musical tentacles, my head starts to bop at track 3 ‘My Walk’, a well rounded praise track, with polished vocal arrangement. This is definitely one of those tracks that would take me to my youthful days, cranking it up, and cracking the windows at the traffic lights on a hot summer’s day (did I really do that?) Yup! Good music needs to be played at volume!
More suited to my, now mature palette, ‘I Wont Stop’ an earnest offering of ‘Ca-Jo’s’ tenacious diligent attitude, displaying his love for his music and most of all, spreading the Word. You can feel his passion in his adopted style, a mellow pace that reaches into Jones’s heart, is well executed.
If you like ‘Nu-Soul’ mellows; you will like ‘Hater Day’, a very soulful track, of the moment I’d say. With real soul production, an attempt at the Hammond organ sound, coupled by lyrics of a strong current, Jones transmits a maturity to his sound, proving he is far from a single dimensioned artist!
‘What You Want’, an R&B-ROCK track, but if rock is not your thing, don’t be put off, a great PRAISE track. I must admit this is a VERY catchy number, not what I would consider to be my reach of choice, but there is definitely an entrancing quality to this performance. I like the production of this track, sounds REAL, I am a great fan of the drum presentation, Michael Orion Carter, I do believe, did I mention the family of Arrow records, well Minister Michael Orion Carter, is also executive administrator of ‘World Changers Intl Church’ and Creflo A. Dollar ministries.
Now lets talks about ‘Vacation’, a great textured track, is it perhaps the hypnotic sounds of the Flute? Pipe? I must admit the head phones have just gone on, to listen to more keenly! A talented Jones illustrates not only singing and lyrical ability but also a melodic rap, includes a poetic spoken word piece and nice electric guitar solo, as I said ‘textured’. Yes I can almost feel the described Cancun vacation experience a refreshing expression of, the presence of God.
A gallant forth album, I’m limited by words, but tracks; ‘My Day’ and ‘Kool’, I have so much to say! Catering for all, you may think there is only one track for you, but the more you listen, the more you pick, debuted at number 3 on the Billboard Gospel charts, no wonder!!
