Letter To The Media
Some aspects of the media very subtly dictate to society what is acceptable and what isn’t. Some aspects of the media tell us how to think and how to feel. The parts of the media that do this are essentially trying to be a god in their own right. I want to encourage you all to be told how you should be by God and not by the media.
I’m tired of you continuously trying to tell me what to do,
I’m tired of you telling me how I should be
As if you gave birth to me.
I’m tired of the press pressing me and pressing me
Telling me “this is what’s beautiful” as you present pictures
In the magazines and on the TV screens
Of whom is the latest being that I should aspire to be like.
Everyday is a constant fight; wrestling with your ideals
Because apparently I’m not ideal enough
Because according to you I don’t measure up.
According to you the Creator didn’t create me correctly,
I don’t fit the mould of what society tells me I should be
But thankfully the Creator has given me the ability to see clearly,
He allows me to see past the lies and the superficiality
Because of the impact of His spirituality.
It's not always easy living in a society in which
The expectations are high and unachievable
Because I’m being told to change who I truly am
And become something that I’m truly not.
It’s confusing living in a society that encourages me
To be true to myself but then encourages me
To take on the mask and personality of somebody else;
To in essence loose myself.
Christ accepts me as I am and moulds me
According to His plan and purpose for my life.
To be a Christian means to be Christ-like,
Therefore He is the being I aspire to be like.
The Creator did create me correctly
And is continuously creating me
Into the person that He wants me to be.
I’m choosing to not accept your stereotypes
And what is ideal through your sight,
For if I choose to follow you I’ll never be fulfilled.
I’m choosing to take advice from Christ
On which my life I can truly build,
I’m choosing to be dictated to by the true Dictator.
