DIJON – A Kids Point Of View
After an awesome service at my church, I felt lifted and edified to continue the high, so I started compiling a worship playlist. In search for some fresh material, I was looking for some nice back to basics worship music, in doing so I stumbled on Dijon (Dijon Prioleau).
I was particularly looking for a more soulful version of 'how great is our God' please don’t get it twisted I respect the ‘Hillsong’ and ‘Chris Tomlin’ versions, but with a music hungry appetite, and not to mention the comments of a good church friend of mine, "Their versions are not as soulful as how we sing ours at church." (LOL Nic!) I was on a mission!
Well what to say, Dijon’s version satisfied my seeking ear! How great is our God....WHOA. A more familiar drum beat and arrangement to my 'soul-lidifed' anvil!
WORTHY LAMB, the opening vocals so reminiscent of the pure years of Michael Jackson singing Ben. At such a young age, Dijons vocals can tenderly stroke the hairs on the back of your neck
REAL LOVE Dijon jumps across the tracks with this real R&B number. Full throttled bass line and typical synthesized BVs A great track, his voice almost matures into a new direction on this track, lyrical content composed for the love of God. I hear echoes of Tevin Campbell here…where did such talent go?
My potential ok so polar opposite from worship, yes Dijon takes us on a "slow-jams" journey. Lyrical content is a rather mature outlook on the adolescence debate of their expectations and purpose in life! Again, the ever present bass line, I’m sure worthy enough to be pumped out by the lowered springs, heavy tints and neon blue lights we see cruising the streets! But hey, wouldn't that be a revelation, bass lines of GOSPEL music sitting at the reds....hmmmmm
Give praise, does what it says on the tin! Albeit in typical R&B style, so if this is your style of praise, a well executed vocal arrangement, question and answer style, will certainly be featured on my radio play list!
I guess anyone whose year of birth starts with 199… makes you stand up and take note, and signed to Verity at the tender age of 14, this “kid” must be talented! To be honest I was expecting a few less gospel tracks being sneaked in, but in all, I’m righteously satisfied! Despite his age, now 15, he keeps it 100% gospel, no innuendos or tracks deemed at a stab to secular crossover. No you won’t find that here, you will only find my respect for a great talent, truly a God fearing MAN!
Dijon tickles and teases my musical hunger and satisfies my soul, most welcomingly pleasured by the worship tracks! I love this album, I have it on repeat and what’s more I so look forward to the maturing of this very talented soul-star! Watch out for Dion, ‘A Kids Point of View’ don’t be fooled, there’s no KID here! I predict YEARS of success, for me, a top-a-da-top purchase,
