U.S. Hip Hop Artists Encourage Young People To Put ‘Knives Down’.
On Tuesday 5th August, U.S. Christian hip hop artists LeCrae, Trip Lee, Tedashii and Sho Baraka, collectively known as 116 Clique, arrive for the UK leg of the Unashamed Tour and youth conference from 6th – 11th August 2008, with UK support acts by Sammy G and Jahaziel. The ‘hip hop tour of the summer’ promises to be a powerful and relevant way to reach our young people and change lives through music and ministry. The artists will headline at major events in Birmingham, Enfield, London, Manchester and Soul Survivor, encouraging youth to lay down their knives
Teenage violence, by and against our young people, is escalating on our streets fuelled by poverty, social inequality and a generation of young people who feel unloved, rejected and misunderstood. Many turn to drugs, binge drinking and gang culture in an attempt to gain respect and assert control to cope with feelings of being powerless to change their situation.
The Main Room, a dynamic youth ministry at Birmingham Christian Centre is hosting the Unashamed tour - an evangelistic youth event - which aims to reach out to Christian and non-Christian youth across the UK through music and uses the shared desire of preaching the good news to energize and mobilize young people across our nation. The goal of the youth conference is to educate, equip and empower young people to be: Unashamed of their calling; Unashamed of their belief; and Unashamed of proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“No one denies we need a change. A change can only come if people believe it and live it out. Both The Main Room and the 116 Clique are committed to loving and valuing all people and making a stand for what we believe is truth. I believe through ministries like these Great Britain can once again be proud of its younger generation; one built on respect, honour and purpose. The gospel of Jesus shows us how to live this out in 21st Century 24/7 reality!” Jonny Lee – Youth Pastor, Birmingham Christian Centre
