1) Hi Chosen good talking with you. Let's start with the basics, where are you from, I understand you where born in JA but raised in the UK?
Yea that’s right. I was actually born in Jamaica, st Catherine to be specific. But I came here when I was 6 so I’ve been living here most of my life and don’t remember too much about Jamaica to be honest. I’ve been living in south London ever since, but Jamaica still holds dear to my heart obviously. I Cant ever forget where I come from and the fact I got a blue passport! haha
2) Were you raised in a Christian home if not when did you become a Christian?
Yea I was raised in a Christian home. From my great grandma to my mum, they are all Christians. Going to church was never a choice for me. It was either church, or CHURCH-Or the belt in some instances. My mum has always instilled positive morals in me from day.
3) When and why .did you get started in the whole music thing?
I started rapping from 13 but obviously it was all about negative stuff. It didn’t make too much sense to me because I was just copying what I herd from the boys in my class. But when I got saved and started taking my Christian walk more seriously I started thinking,’ how can I be rapping about things that contradict who I am’. And that’s when I saw a group of Gospel rappers called ‘LDS’. I never new you could have ‘Christian rappers’ in church. It came as a surprise to me and I was very intrigued and thus, started writing about God instead. Ever since I haven’t looked back. I formed the group youngwizdom with E-tizz, D.R.E and Spiritual Kid (S.K)
4) How would you describe your musical style ... Gospel Grime?
NO. To be honest, I prefer to rap than to mc believe it or not. And i always was a rapper. Its only when I started rolling with guys like L’dubzy (who produced That’s NOT funny) when I really started to MC. Now I'm recognised as an MC when really and truly, I'm a rapper. Since I can do both you could jus call me a lyricist. Overall, my music style has no boundaries and I wouldn’t want to be in any category really. Im just me. haha. If you’re going to go DEEP, I actually prefer Singing more than anything else!
5) I noticed you have done a version on the Bun Da Gun riddim created by L Dubzy. Can you let the people know all about this project?
Well everyone knows about the first Bun Da Gun, which was a great success. Dubzy has given everyone permission to use the beat and develop their own version. Like Wiley with Eskimo riddim I suppose. He’s trying to create a large movement and this time he’s trying to get companies like trident and the BBC involved.
6) Bonus Question – What advice would you give to other Christian artists starting out?
Don’t do it because you want to. Do it if you feel you’ve been called to. Being an artist isn’t all rosy either, its a lot of hard work trust me and not everyone is cut out for it im afraid. Also, don’t be afraid to take time to perfect your craft before you rush out into the industry and on stage. Its time to up the quality of Gospel music!
