UMA Halted Because Of Violence
The 6th annual Urban Music Awards (UMA) held last night in the O2 arena London, came to an abrupt halt as violence broke out in the crowd.
Eye witnesses reported bottles of Champagne and chairs being thrown around the venue as the event descended into a huge braw. Top artists Estelle, Dizzee Rascal and Leona Lewis were all due to perform. Sway won Best Hip Hop Award, performing F UR X with fellow rapper $tush but not long after the violence broke out. Three men are being treated for stab wounds as a result of the incedent.
The UKGM news team spoke with Karl Nova who had been in attendance at the event and witnessed the shocking scene as it unfolded.
"I was attending the award night with my crew GK Real because we were nominated in the the best gospel act category. Mid way through the event after some awards had been presented and some acts had done their live performances, there was commotion in the middle of the hall and bottles being thrown."
"I ran out with the rest of GK Real and many other people. I saw a man bleeding on the ground and loads of celebrities running out too. I saw my brothers of the group 29th Chapter and Blessed Voices who were up for the same award in the category my crew GK Real was in. It turns out that 3 people were stabbed and 1 of them was seriously hurt."
"It is sad that such wickedness happened in the Urban music awards which perpetuates the negative stereotypes associated with such genres of music. I have to say that the security could've been much better."
A sad outcome to an event that has always promised to eclipse the often criticised MOBO Awards. Will this be the end of the UMA’s ... Tell us what you think?
